Sunsets in Okavango Delta were magical 😍 We could Sunsets in Okavango Delta were magical 😍We could have just stayed watching the elephants for hours, they are absolutely gorgeous beings 🥹🐘❤️#finnsaway #nomadlife #travel #visitbotswana #okavangodelta
Okavango Delta, Botswana 💚🇧🇼 The Okavango Delta i Okavango Delta, Botswana 💚🇧🇼The Okavango Delta is a large inland delta area located in north-western Botswana. This unique, Unesco-listed delta system includes permanent swamps, small islands and seasonally flooded grasslands, and is rich in wildlife and a sanctuary to some of the world's most endangered animals and birds. The Okavango River, that originates in the Angolan highlands, never reaches an ocean, but flows through Namibia into Botswana, where the waters drain into the desert sands of the Kalahari Basin, creating a vast and varied ecosystem. The traditional way to explore the delta is a boating safari by a traditional mokoro canoe. Historically these canoes were carved from tree trunks, but modern mokoros are actually made of fiberglass. Mokoros are operated by a local guide standing at the stern with a long pole (ngashi), as passengers sit near the waterline. Mokoro riders are a slow, peaceful, low-impact way to explore the delta and view wildlife. We did a day tour with a mokoro on Boro river, north from Maun. It was a fantastic experience, but a multi-day trip would have been even better, getting deeper in the delta. However, during just this day trip we learned about the nature of the area and saw elephants and hippos (from afar), as well as a lot of birds and paw prints of lions too!#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitbotswana #okavangodelta #mokoro
Hitch-hiking in Africa, go or no-go?🤔 Well, wouldn Hitch-hiking in Africa, go or no-go?🤔 Well, wouldn't recommend that everywhere, but in Botswana it felt safe and "normal". Let me tell you.As our first visit in Botswana back in 2023 was super short (we only visited Kasane and Chobe National Park in the north), we simply needed to add it into our route through southern Africa. With only 2,5 million people, Botswana is small when it comes to population, but it is a large, sparsely populated country with vast wilderness areas. We entered the country from Namibia in the west, crossing the massive Kalahari Desert, and headed to north to Maun, to visit the Okavango Delta.Traveling overland through the country (without own wheels or tour) turned out to be a bit challenging, as in some parts of it public transportation barely exist. After talking with locals in Charles Hill by the border, we found out that to get to Maun from the Kalahari border, the best option was hitch-hiking, and so we ended up jumping in a Zimbabwean truck.🚛The drive to Maun was a slow one, with a lot of cows, donkeys and horses on the road, not to even mention the endless amount of potholes. But we made it, and had nice chats with the driver on the way.☺️In the pics a random collection from along the way and from Maun.#finnsaway #nomadlife #botswana #maun #overlanding
Throwback to Moçâmedes (Namibe) in southwestern An Throwback to Moçâmedes (Namibe) in southwestern AngolaMoçâmedes, formerly and still widely known as Namibe, is a lively coastal town and capital of the Namibe Province of Angola. This city, known for colonial architecture, seafood restaurants and sand dunes, was one of our main destinations in Angola.During a few days in Namibe, we explored the city center and the seaside promenade, admired the beautiful, Portuguese-style buildings and enjoyed the warm weather by the beach.Namibe is also known for adventure tourism, as it is a natural gateway to the dunes of the Namibe desert in Angola.#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitangola #mocamedes #namibe
The most scenic road of Angola?🇦🇴 Serra da Leba The most scenic road of Angola?🇦🇴Serra da Leba is a mountain range that separates the coastal plateau of Angola from the highlands. For long is formed a an insurmountable obstacle to passage between Namibe on the coast and Lubango in the inland, but finally in the 1970's a proper road was built over the Serra da Leba pass. This narrow, winding road, known as the snake road, is one of the most scenic routes in the country, if not in the whole continent. The road ascends more than 1800 meters in around 20 kilometers, with a gradient as high as 34 % at times!🤩The road is partly built in a canyon, and you can admire waterfalls and a river far below. The cliffs are steep, like VERY steep, and as the road crosses three different climatic zones, from tropical forests to dry mountain plateu.🌿Our pics and videos, taken from a bus window, unfortunately don't do much justice to this stunning place – it's advisable to go by a car or book a tour, and also visit the viewpoint above the snake road.In addition to being super scenic, this road is also notorious for frequent accidents and lack of guardrails. Driving, or traveling by bus, can be nerve-wrecking, and it's not uncommon to see crashes, or like on our trip, overturned trucks. The weather can be unpredictable too - on our way down to the coast, it was sunny and warm, on our way back it was rainy, cloudy and chilly, and we couldn't really see much anything, just grey clouds (swipe to last clip for the "views").#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitangola #serradaleba #scenicroads
Tundavala Gap, Angola 🇦🇴 Tundavala Gap is a drama Tundavala Gap, Angola 🇦🇴Tundavala Gap is a dramatic canyon on the escarpment of the Serra da Leba near Lubango in Huíla Province, southern Angola. The escarpment, suddenly dropping over 1 000 meters to the valley below, marks the western limit of the Humpata Plateau, part of the Great Escarpment of Southern Africa, that separates the region's highland interior plateau from the coastal strip.Tundavala Gap is one of the natural wonders of Angola, and the viewpoints of the area offer stunning panorama views over the surrounding landscapes with rocky cliffs and lush valleys. It's a popular sunset spot for locals, and one of the most popular tourism destinations of the country, and the main natural and geological attraction of the Huíla province.💚#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitangola #tundavalagap #serradaleba
Daily wildlife encounters at the Regenstein Nature Daily wildlife encounters at the Regenstein Nature Reserve, part two, other animals! ❤️In addition to the three cute giraffes of the wildlife reserve, we saw a lot of other wildlife along our dog walks, runs and safari drives. The most common sights were antelopes - we saw springboks, impalas, kudus, elands, hartebeests, wildebeests, klipspringers and once also a waterbuck.Furthermore, we managed to spot zebras, warthogs, baboons, scrub hares, tortoises, lizards and a lot of bird species. It was such a wonderful experience to follow the life of these beautiful creatures.😍(These pictures don't really do much justice – we don't currently have a proper camera, so only take pics with our phones. Thus, the pictures are far away from good wildlife pictures, sorry about that.)#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitnamibia #wildlife
