Windhoek was the first destination along our trave Windhoek was the first destination along our travels in Namibia. With roughly half a million inhabitants, the capital, located in the middle of the country in the central highlands, is the largest city of this sparsely populated country.Windhoek is the social, economic, political, cultural and commercial centre of Namibia. It's home to the National Art Gallery, National Theatre and the National Museum, as well as a large amount of company headquarters and embassies. From tourism point of view, Windhoek often is just the starting point to guided or independent tours around the country, and in the city itself, there are no major sights. In stead of cities, Namibia is best known for its nature, including the famous Etosha National Park and the sand dunes of the Namib desert. However, for those who have some extra days before or after their travels elsewhere in the country, Windhoek offers an uncomplicated and affordable city life experience. And for digital nomads like us, it's a great base for a bit longer stay, with good internet, a lot of restaurants, walkable city center, events and even local craft beer (more about that in our @craft.beer.nomads account)#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitnamibia #windhoek

lands and rugged mountains!🩵Citrusdal is a small town best known for citrus farming, located at the base of the Cederberg
mountains, in the Olifants River Valley in the Western Cape province of South Africa.🍋This beautiful waterfall and swimming pond is in the Waterwall Farm, a fruit farm that has a handful of lovely cottages offering a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town. The stunning waterfalls and cliffs are just a short walk from the cottages, offering refreshing swimming in natural rock pools and a lovely small beach for sunbathing.Nearby, there are several scenic hiking trails, and also great locations for rock climbing / bouldering.#finnsaway #southafrica #northerncape #citrusdal #waterfalls

It was a long and dusty drive, including scenic views especially around the Van Rhynspas on the border of the provinces.Calvinia, located in the middle of a barren semi-desert; huge, dry, almost empty lands known as karoo, is one of those places, where life is slow and time seems to have stopped. We have a relaxing stay, just walking around the town and running in the nearby Akkerendam Nature Reserve.#finnsaway #southafrica #northerncape #calvinia
Before first posts from stunning Namibia, let's ha Before first posts from stunning Namibia, let's have a short look on our road trip in the northern part of the Western Cape (and a piece of Northern Cape) in January. We again renter a small car from Cape Town, and the first destination was the West Coast Peninsula, that is, as the name implies, located on the west coast, roughly 140 km from the mother city. The west coast of South Africa is nowhere near as popular holiday destination as the south coast, but there definitely are beautiful landscapes and charming villages. Due to the small amount of visitors, the old fishing villages have preserved a timeless, peaceful atmosphere to some extent.Probably the best known destination on the coast of the peninsula is Paternoster, a 400-year-old village turned into a seaside town popular among expats and domestic summer residents. Paternoster is known for long beaches, whitewashed cottages and activities like whale-watching, bird-watching and water sports.Saldanha on the south coast of the peninsula is an industrial town one of the largest export ports in Africa, but it also has it's touristic side. Located by the Saldanha Bay, this town is home to beautiful beaches, guest houses with sea views and several seafood restaurants.Summer was a very nice time to visit, but the most popular season to explore the West Coast Peninsula is during the spring, between August to October, when the wildflowers are in full bloom 🌼🌺🌻Pics 1-4 Paternoster

Looking for a challenging but rewarding day hike o Looking for a challenging but rewarding day hike on Table Mountain?Take the India Venster trail up, starting from the lower cable station, make a short or longer loop on top of the mountain, and descent along thebPlatteklip Gorge trail.Stunning views, a bit of scrambling, lots of steps, fantastic feelings ❤️#capetown #tablemountain #hikingadventures #southafrica #finnsaway
Table Mountain is a fantastic destination for day Table Mountain is a fantastic destination for day hikes!🤩 There are so many trails with amazing views, and you can choose from easy and relatively flat trails on the foot of the mountain to challenging climbs all the way up on top. When staying in the Gardens area at the foot of the mountain, we hiked the India Venster trail, one of those routes that require some scrambling and using also your hands to climb in the steep parts. It's a super scenic and rewarding route, suitable for those who are reasonably fit and have no fear of heights. The trail begins just before the Lower Cable Station and leads up to the Contour Path and India Venster, a window-like rock formation. Further up, there are some short scrambling sections with bolted handles to help climbing over the rocks.Up on top of the mountain you can either head to the Upper Cable Station, or continue further along the trails that criss-cross on top of the Table Mountain. We chose the latter, and headed to the highest point of the mountain, the Maclear's Beacon, not much a peak actually, more a pile of rocks that marks the highest point. The views are beautiful though, as is the flora on the way. From the peak we circled back, and descended the mountain along one of the most popular routes, the Platteklip Gorge trail. This route doesn't require scrambling, but is more like a rocky staircase in a scenic gorge. It's a relatively short trail, but with strenuous ascent, and we saw a lot of rather tired hikers climbing up - please start early and take plenty of water if you do this hike on a sunny summer day! Descending is easier, but can be quite tough on the knees.Altogether this hike (starting from the lower cable station and ending in Vredehoek below the mountain) was 15,5 km long, with 880 meters of ascent and 1100 meters of descent, and it took roughly 5,5 hours to hike (with short breaks).#finnsaway #nomadlife #southafrica #visitcapetown #tablemountain

Cape Town color therapy to your Thursday!Bo-Kaap Cape Town color therapy to your Thursday!Bo-Kaap with it's colorful houses and cobbled streets is one of the most visited neighborhoods of Cape Town. It's not only known for its colors though, but for its vibrant, predominantly Muslim, Cape Malay community.Formerly known as the Malay Quarter, the Bo-Kaap’s origins date back to the 1760s when numerous rental houses were built and leased to slaves and political exiles brought from other Dutch colonies in the east, including Indonesia’s Batavia, Sumatra, Java and also East Africa. Most of these groups spoke some Malay, hence this new community becoming known as the Cape Malays. The bright colors of the houses in the are is said to attribute to the fact that while on lease, all the houses had to be white. When the tenants finally were allowed to buy the properties, all the houses were painted bright colors by their owners as an expression of their freedom.#finnsaway #nomadlife #southafrica #visitcapetown #bokaap
