The most scenic road of Angola?🇦🇴Serra da Leba The most scenic road of Angola?🇦🇴Serra da Leba is a mountain range that separates the coastal plateau of Angola from the highlands. For long is formed a an insurmountable obstacle to passage between Namibe on the coast and Lubango in the inland, but finally in the 1970's a proper road was built over the Serra da Leba pass. This narrow, winding road, known as the snake road, is one of the most scenic routes in the country, if not in the whole continent. The road ascends more than 1800 meters in around 20 kilometers, with a gradient as high as 34 % at times!🤩The road is partly built in a canyon, and you can admire waterfalls and a river far below. The cliffs are steep, like VERY steep, and as the road crosses three different climatic zones, from tropical forests to dry mountain plateu.🌿Our pics and videos, taken from a bus window, unfortunately don't do much justice to this stunning place – it's advisable to go by a car or book a tour, and also visit the viewpoint above the snake road.In addition to being super scenic, this road is also notorious for frequent accidents and lack of guardrails. Driving, or traveling by bus, can be nerve-wrecking, and it's not uncommon to see crashes, or like on our trip, overturned trucks. The weather can be unpredictable too - on our way down to the coast, it was sunny and warm, on our way back it was rainy, cloudy and chilly, and we couldn't really see much anything, just grey clouds (swipe to last clip for the "views").#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitangola #serradaleba #scenicroads
Tundavala Gap, Angola 🇦🇴Tundavala Gap is a drama Tundavala Gap, Angola 🇦🇴Tundavala Gap is a dramatic canyon on the escarpment of the Serra da Leba near Lubango in Huíla Province, southern Angola. The escarpment, suddenly dropping over 1 000 meters to the valley below, marks the western limit of the Humpata Plateau, part of the Great Escarpment of Southern Africa, that separates the region's highland interior plateau from the coastal strip.Tundavala Gap is one of the natural wonders of Angola, and the viewpoints of the area offer stunning panorama views over the surrounding landscapes with rocky cliffs and lush valleys. It's a popular sunset spot for locals, and one of the most popular tourism destinations of the country, and the main natural and geological attraction of the Huíla province.💚#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitangola #tundavalagap #serradaleba
Daily wildlife encounters at the Regenstein Nature Daily wildlife encounters at the Regenstein Nature Reserve, part two, other animals! ❤️In addition to the three cute giraffes of the wildlife reserve, we saw a lot of other wildlife along our dog walks, runs and safari drives. The most common sights were antelopes - we saw springboks, impalas, kudus, elands, hartebeests, wildebeests, klipspringers and once also a waterbuck.Furthermore, we managed to spot zebras, warthogs, baboons, scrub hares, tortoises, lizards and a lot of bird species. It was such a wonderful experience to follow the life of these beautiful creatures.😍(These pictures don't really do much justice – we don't currently have a proper camera, so only take pics with our phones. Thus, the pictures are far away from good wildlife pictures, sorry about that.)#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitnamibia #wildlife
Daily wildlife encounters at the Regenstein Nature Daily wildlife encounters at the Regenstein Nature Reserve, part one, giraffes! 🧡 🦒There were three giraffes living in the reserve, and we saw them almost every day from a close range along our dog walks, runs or safari drives. Amazing moments! 😍😍#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitnamibia #wildlife #giraffe
As at least those of you who have been following u As at least those of you who have been following us for a long time know, we love to do house-sitting / pet-sitting wherever we roam. Namibia was no exception, as we found a fantastic sit close to Windhoek, inside a private game reserve!😍We were taking care of this cutie, a lovely Staffy called Stoffel, for almost a month, and had great time in a very peaceful, beautiful environment. Just around 15 km away from the city center, we were surrounded with nature and wildlife, almost like in another world.💚Our days during the house-sit where mostly filled with work and walks and runs in the reserve. Stoffel was great company, a very easy-going dog who loved his walks and safari rides with us in the nature reserve.🐾As full time travelers, house-sits offer us longer stays in one place, living "normal life" and focusing more on work and writing. Traveling can be a bit consuming at times, so these stays are a great way of slowing down. Furthermore, we get to meet new people and make new (pet) friends.❤️Have you ever heard about house-sitting, or maybe tried it yourself? In the next post more about the wildlife in the game reserve 🤩🦒🦌#finnsaway #housesitting #petsitting #namibia #dogslove
Some more desert magic from Namibia!💛The Sossusv Some more desert magic from Namibia!💛The Sossusvlei area is famous for the beautiful, over 300 meters high sand dunes, that are said to be the highest in the world. Right next to the Deadvlei clay pan there are several impressive dunes, highest of them being the one called Big Daddy.Climbing on top of Big Daddy is for many the highlight of visiting Sossusvlei, but if you are planning to do that, you should start early. We walked though Deadvlei under the scorching midday sun, and despite the heat (closing 40 C) decided to climb up on top of the ridge that leads to the Big Daddy peak.It was a steep, sweaty climb in burning hot sand, and we almost turned back down, but finally made it on top of the ridge.😅 Was it worth it? Well yes, the views over the dunes and pans were stunning! From the ridge we run down to the other side of it, and walked back to our car over large dry pans.😍On the way back to the Sesriem gates, we stopped to admire the famous dune 45, a beautiful dune that is said to be especially stunning in the early morning or sunset light.#finnsaway #visitnamibia #sossusvlei #deadvlei #namibdesert
The giant sand dunes and dry white pans of the Sos The giant sand dunes and dry white pans of the Sossusvlei area are the most popular destination in the Namib-Naukluft National Park in the Namib Desert. The most photographed sight in the Sossusvlei area and probably the entire Namib Desert is the magnificent, surreal-looking clay pan of Deadvlei, with it's dry, skeleton-like trees, surrounded with high sand dunes 😍Visiting Deadvlei was the highlight of our self-guided tour in Namib Desert – we had seen a lot of photos of this extraordinary place, but it's something you need to experience yourself to understand hos special it is 🧡Deadvlei clay pan was formed when the Tsauchab river flooded, forming temporary pools that allowed acacia trees to grow. When drought then hit the area, approximately 900 years ago, the pan dried out, and sand dunes separated the area from the river. The trees died, but due to the heat they didn't decompose, but instead dried to impressive, picturesque black skeletons.#finnsaway #visitnamibia #sossusvlei #deadvlei #namibdesert
On our way from Solitaire to the Sossusvlei dunes, On our way from Solitaire to the Sossusvlei dunes, we spotted this elegant desert survivor – this beautiful antelope with long, spear-like horns is Oryx (Gemsbok), the National Animal of Namibia. These magnificent creatures can go months without drinking water, by extracting moisture from plants and roots, and using a specialized cooling system in their nose to survive under the burning sun, in the heat of the desert.#finnsaway #visitnamibia #sossusvlei #oryx #namibdesert
