One more throwback to Corfu, this time to the city One more throwback to Corfu, this time to the city of Corfu, the capital of the island and the region of the Ionian Islands. Corfu has played an important role in Greek history since antiquity, and since the medieval times it has been known as Kastropolis, a city of two castles.Corfu was ruled by Venetian nobility from 1386 to 1797, and the UNESCO listed Old Town has a lot of Venetian influence. There are two handsome Venetian fortresses, the Old Fortress of Corfu, located on two peaks that form the easternmost the tip of the peninsula, and the New Fortress, that stands on a hill next to the old port. The Old Town of Corfu, in between the two fortresses, is a tightly built maze of narrow cobblestone alleys running in between apartment buildings and churches. There are also notable palaces, especially the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, that originally served as the residence of the British Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands.#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitcorfu
During our short stay in Corfu we explored some of During our short stay in Corfu we explored some of the beautiful villages of the island. Whereas Corfu seems to lack the iconic white-and-blue-Greek-island vibes, the villages charm with laid-back atmosphere, soft pastel colors, cobbled alleys, small tavernas and of course with cats. These pics are from along a bicycle ride on the hills around Palaiokastritsa.Pics 1-6 Lakones

Throwback to September and to the island of Corfu! Throwback to September and to the island of Corfu! This beautiful, historical Island in northwestern corner of Greece is part of the Ionian Islands and the Corfu regional unit.In this first photo dump, let's focus on the coastline and beaches, as that's for sure one thing that Corfu is famous for. Corfu's coastline spans 217 km, with a lot picturesque capes and bays, caves cliffs and both rocky and sandy beaches.Back in the days Corfu was mainly visited by the European royals and elites, but has for decades been a popular package holiday destination – in fact Cofu was one of the primary destinations for this form of mass tourism in the latter half of the 20th century. There are a lot of holiday resorts and private villas along the coastline, but it's still possible to also find quiet, isolated beaches from along the rocky coast, some of them only accessible by boat.Have you visited Corfu or other Greek Islands? Which is your favorite? 💙#finnsaway #nomadlife #visitcorfu
Travel tip to Albania - a visit to historical Kruj Travel tip to Albania - a visit to historical Kruja! This town, especially the old fortress of it, the Kalaja e Krujë, played an important role in medieval history of Albania. The Castle of Kruja was the center of Skanderbeg's rebellion against the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century.Kruja Fortress has become a popular tourism destination, and for a reason – it's a beautifully restaured castle with museums, a mosque, an old watchtower, a Turkish bath, several restaurants, hotels and guesthouses. Furthermore, there are picturesque alleys and stunning views all the way to the Adriatic Sea and over Tirana.Below the fortress itself is the Old Town of Kruja, with a famous bazaar area. A walk along the narrow, cobbled bazaar street lined with small shops selling colourful carpets, handicrafts antiques and ceramics is like a jump back in time.#finnsaway #nomadlife #travelforlife #travelinspiration #visitalbania #krujacastle
Throwback to Lublin!😍 This charming city in eas Throwback to Lublin!😍 This charming city in eastern Poland was one of the rare stops on our fast road trip from Finland to Albania. We only had time for a short walking tour in the old town, that is rich in history and lively at the same time.Lublin has over 700 years of history, and it has been a meeting point of Western and Eastern cultures. The Old Town bursts Renaissance architecture and has secrets like an underground tunnel system that connects a network of ancient cellars. The main entrance to the old town is is the Krakowska Gate (The Krakow Gate, in pic 1), a city gate from the 14th century, that once was part of the city walls. The name of the gate originates from the historic route that lead from Krakow via Lublin to Vilnius. Nowadays the gate building is home to the Museum of History of the city of Lublin. The Lublin goat is one of the most important symbols of the city. While walking in the old town, we spotted several small goat statues. The goat figures are dedicated to important people and events in the city 🐐In pic 9 you can see Kazik the goat - this statue was named in honor of King Casimir the Great, who ruled when the Krakowska Gate was built. He holds a spirit level, that reflects the fact that the gate is not standing completely straight. In pic 10 is goat Światłowid (that translates to fibre optics) - this statue commemorates the historic achievement of Lublin being the first centre in Poland to begin to research fibre optics technology.#finnsaway #nomadlife #digitalnomads #travelforlife #locationindependent #travelblog #travelinspiration #travelforlife #nomadiclife #adventurers #visitlublin
New FinnsAway season has begun! 🤩After busy b New FinnsAway season has begun! 🤩After busy but lovely August in our home country, it's time for new nomadic adventures in Europe and beyond 🌍The ninth season has just started with a road trip from Finland to Albania, and further on to Greece, with our small camper van. The first days are mostly about just driving and some very limited sightseeing, as we have a rather tight schedule due to a work related event in Krujë next week. After the event, we are planning to do some island hopping and hiking, before starting a three-weeks house-sit in Thessaloniki 🐾🇬🇷Plans for the rest of the year and for the winter are pretty much open at this point, but hopefully we will explore some new destinations oversees!🤩The pic was taken during a short visit to Lublin, a beautiful old town in Poland, more about that will follow soon!#finnsaway #nomadlife #digitalnomads #travelforlife #locationindependent #travelblog #travelinspiration #travelforlife #nomadiclife #adventurers #vanlife
Another throwback to August in Finland with a shor Another throwback to August in Finland with a short introduction of Olavinlinna / St. Olaf's Castle and Punkaharju. We visited these famous sights during a road trip through eastern Finland and the so called Lake District, an area with a huge amount of lakes and ridges formed by the movement of ice at the end of the ice age.St. Olaf's Castle, is a 15th-century three-tower castle in Savonlinna. It is built on an island in the Kyrönsalmi strait that connects the lakes Haukivesi and Pihlajavesi. It is the northernmost medieval stone fortress still standing, and also the best preserved of all the medieval castles in the Swedish realm.St. Olaf's Castle is popular around the year, but m most busy during the summer months, especially at the time of the Savonlinna Opera Festival, for which the castle forms a spectacular stage. The last three pictures are from Punkaharju Ridge, a narrow esker separates two lakes of the Saimaa lake system, Puruvesi and Pihlajavesi. Punkaharju is an iconic Finnish national landscape, and has inspired artists and writers, and drawn both domestic and international visitors since at least the early 1800s.#finnsaway #nomadlife #digitalnomads #travelforlife #travelphotography #travelinspiration #instatravel #visitfinland
